Town of Rosendale Pool and Summer Day Camp Closure Announcement for the 2020 Season

07-15 2020 |

After reviewing New York State requirements for re-opening our recreational facilities, the Town Board has made the following decisions by unanimous vote during their May meeting:

1. The town swimming pool will remain closed for the 2020 season. Due to the COVID19 crisis, county government has not issued permits for pools to open, nor are pools allowed to be open until the fourth phase of the state’s reopening schedule. Other challenges the board considered are safety of our town residents, finding sufficient and appropriately certified staff, maintaining social distancing policies including face masks, and the ability to do required maintenance on the pool prior to opening.

2. The town’s summer day camp program is cancelled for the 2020 season. We have reviewed the necessary precautions and protocols that must be in place for operation of a day camp and have concluded that it is not possible for us to offer camp under those conditions. Our decision considered the reduced capacity, social distancing requirements, use of masks and other personal protective equipment, safety of our children and families, and the uncertainty of being able to provide adequate staffing for a shortened season.

Until our Mid-Hudson region reaches phase 4 re-opening status, recreational facilities and playing fields in the town will remain closed.

We recognize the difficulty that these decisions will cause and we share in your disappointment. However, our greatest concern is the health and safety of our community. The Town is actively seeking guidance on what, if any, recreation opportunities we may safely offer this season. We look forward to returning our pool and summer day camp to full operation in the 2021 season.

This notice will be updated as recreation activities and facilities are allowed to open.
