Here's a little information about our town's wonderful Youth Program ....

  • The Youth Program Officed is staffed Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and  Saturday from 1-9 p.m.
  • The Youth Center welcomes visitors under 21 on Monday-Fri. from 3 -9 p.m. and Saturday from 1-9 p.m.
  • The Youth Commission meets the lst Monday of each month at the Rosendale Youth Center at 7:30 p.m. THE PUBLIC IS WELCOME TO ATTEND (Center closes at 7:00 p.m. on meeting nights)

SUMMER ART CLASSES

Explore the technique of Watercolor. There will be instruction in drawing and painting.

The focus will be things in nature: landscape, wildlife, & flowers.

Classes will be offered all sessions of the Rosendale camp.

 

When: Wednesday and Friday from 2:30 – 4:00 under the pavilion.

 

Fee: $35 a week. Accepting students 10-12 years old.

 GIRLS CIRCLE

 

A fun, safe, supportive, structured group for girls 9-12 years old.

Facilitated by Mary Farel, Certified Girls Circle Facilitator

Through verbal sharing and creative activity, each week girls take turns talking and listening to one another about their concerns and interests as they relate to different themes (i.e. Friendships, Body Image, Honoring Diversity, Relationships with peers, Expressing Individuality).

The Rosendale Youth Commission meets 1st Monday of each month at the Rosendale Youth Center, 7:30 p.m.  The public is invited.

allowed on the Recreation Center Park hill along James St. for safety reasons.

   Preschool Playgroup continues in the Rosendale Community Center on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until noon and follows the Rondout Valley School calendar.

 

 

 

     A VALENTINES DANCE for all ages will be Saturday, Feb. 16th at the Rosendale Community Center from 6 – 8 p.m. Dance to the music of DJ PRO.  Admission is $2 per person or $5 per family.  Youth aged 11 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.   Children under age 5 are free.

 

    A Babysitting Basics class will be held at the youth center on Monday, Feb. 18th  (no school – it’s President’s Day) from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Boys and girls aged 12 and older will learn how to start a babysitting service safely, business card development and advertising, personal appearance and presentation, diapering, feeding, bathing, good touch/bad touch, creative play, fire safety, environmental safety and basic first aid.  The fee is $25 per participant; registration deadline is 2/13; checks made payable to The Rose Women’s Care Service.  Please send future babysitters with lunch and a snack.   Payment can be dropped off or mailed to the youth program office.  Maximum class size is 20 so act early!

 

     Sign up for TEEBALL and SUMMER DAY CAMP begins Saturday,

March 1st at 1 p.m. when the Youth Center opens. 

 

     Summer Camp is available to children aged 5 – 12.  A camper may attend one two week session.  Session One  is July 7 - 18; Session Two is July 21 – Aug. 1; Session Three is Aug. 4 – 15.  Campers arrive 9 – 10 a.m.; camp runs 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, rain or shine, and includes games, sports, field trips, indoor play in the youth center, swimming, art/crafts, and special events (a fee is charged for field trips and events).  An immunization record or letter of exemption is required at sign up or application is considered incomplete.  70 campers are accepted for each session.  Payment for special camp events is not due until family packets are ready in May.  Non – resident applications are processed after March 10 with  an additional $75 charge per child. Parents/guardians may call our office to confirm registrations anytime after March 15th.  If a second camp session is desired, we will be glad to put your child on a waiting list and contact you when space becomes available.  The same fees apply.

     Our After Camp Program is available for $25 per camper per session.  Staff supervise after campers from 2 – 5:30 p.m. daily.  Payment for after camp is due at camp registration.  Children in After Camp enjoy the same activities as camp, only in a smaller group.

 

    Teeball is for children who will be 5 by Aug. 1st and have not reached their 8th birthday (no exceptions).  Teeball is non – competitive play for fun and basic skills.  All players receive a tee shirt.  Children must bring a glove.  Teeball will be played Wednesdays May 7, 14, 21, 28 and June 4 & 11.  June 11 is awards night; each player receives a certificate and ribbon and there is an ice cream social at the conclusion of the ceremony. Pictures will be taken May 21st.

     In addition to the game night, there will be one practice night per week, usually a Monday or Tuesday.  If you have a preference, please note that on the front of your registration form, along with any placement requests.  Volunteers are needed as coaches and team parents.  Coaches, team parents, and practice nights and times will be confirmed by phone by Youth Program staff after April 10th.

     Teeball sponsors are needed to keep our program free.  Cost is still $25 to be a sponsor.  Sponsor names are listed on all tee shirts and announced on awards night.  Sponsor forms are available at the Youth Center and by mail and fax.

 

     Camp and teeball slots are filled on a first come, first served basis.  Proof of age and residency may be requested, so come prepared.  Call the office if you have any questions.  Applications for both activities are only available on and after March 1st..

 

     The U.S. Sports Institute will hold a multi Sports Camp in the Rosendale Recreation Center park Aug. 25 – 29. For children aged 5 – 7 years old, camp will run 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and cost $140.  For children aged 7 – 14 years old, camp runs 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will cost $160.  (You will determine what group your 7 year old should be in).  Campers will enjoy seventeen different sports activities (there is no swimming) supervised by U.S. Sports Institute staff.  Parents have the option of having their children stay with youth center staff from 3 – 5:30 p.m. at no extra charge.  Register online at www.USsportsInstitute.com for the camp; call or stop by the youth program office to choose the youth center afternoon stay as soon as possible because space is limited..  

 

     Rosendale Swim Team will hold registration on Saturday, April 5th, 10:30  – 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center on Rt. 32.  Children ages 5 – 18 are eligible; cost is $45 per child, $100 maximum per family.  Please call Patty Hess for more information at 687 – 7188.   

 

   The Friends of the Rosendale Library will be having two programs at the Youth Center for their Celebration of the Arts to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rosendale Library.  A workshop by Bobby Katz on Saturday, April 12th “Once Around the Sun and Beyond” will be 10:30 a.m. until noon for ages 6 – 10 years old.  Maximum number of participants is 15.  The workshop is designed to help children express their feelings and make fresh observation of the world around them with words.  On Saturday, May 17th, Steve Clorfeine will present “Found Poems – A Writing Workshop for Teens” from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  Maximum number of participants is 20.  Teens will work with shaping poems from “random” sources: postcards, newspapers, overheard conversations.  The focus will be on the play of sounds, images and the shapely way we can use words.  We will work quickly with a series of exercises, listening and speaking about how language can make our minds open and soar.  To register for workshops, please call the Rosendale Library at 658 – 9013.

 

      We will offer a Defensive Driving class with the Empire Safety Council on Monday , April 28 and Tuesday, April 29, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Rosendale Community Center.  Participants must attend both nights.  The fee is $40, with $10 of each registration donated to our youth program.  To enroll, please contact Paul Odendahl at 845- 895- 5098 or online at www.digitaldefensivedriving.com

 

      Join us for our annual Earth Day Clean Up scheduled for Thursday, April 24th (raindate April 26th).  We meet at the Youth Center at 3:45 p.m. to clean up local streets and have snacks afterward.  Call the office to sign up!

 

 

      Saturday, May 3rd, the Rosendale Earth Fest and Energy Expo takes place at the Recreation Center park. The Earthfest is under the pavilion from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features a lively program of entertainment and educational activities including the Arm of the Sea Theater, music by the Big Sky Ensemble, Bill Robinson’s wild animals, crafts, nature activities, games and food.   The Energy Expo inside the Community Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. is a “how to” seminar and vendor show to lower energy costs and have greener homes, businesses, and communities.  Admission is $5 for individuals, $10 per family, and is hosted by the Rosendale Commission for Conservation of the Environment.

    Join us for the 4th Annual Rosendale Car Show on Sunday, May 18th!  The Rosendale Street Rods Car Club sponsors this terrific family event to benefit the Youth Program.  See great pre – 1980 cars, enjoy the sounds of DJ Brian, eat and shop at vendor booths.  Trophies are awarded at 3 p.m.  To donate as a sponsor, provide a raffle or door prize, or if you need a vendor or car registration form, please call or stop by our office as soon as possible.

 

     We’ll march in the town’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28th.  Line up is at the Tillson Firehouse on Tillson Road at 9:45 a.m. Everyone is invited back to the Tillson American Legion for hotdogs after the parade.

 

    The Rosendale Recreation Commission will hold swim lesson sign ups in the spring.  Dates and times to be announced.  Call the youth center and we’ll be glad to give you the information once we receive it.

 

     Have your child’s birthday party at the Youth Center! $25 for town residents, $40 for non – residents.  Use the center for up to 3 hours and have fun, fun, fun (and go home to a clean house).  Party forms are available at the Youth Center.  Call the office for available Sundays.  Parties are for youth up to age 17 with a maximum of 20 youth guests.
