Rosendale Water & Sewer Commission Monthly Meeting
April 24, 2006
Commissioners: Harriet VanKleeck, Carol St. Rose, Ernie Kelder, Joseph Roddy
Others: Terry Johnson, Supt w/s
Meeting called to order 6:58 p.m. on a motion by Harriet. Motion seconded by Carol.
Prior to accepting the March minutes, Joe would like to make one correction. The correction from March minutes stating that Water/Sewer dept. and Highway Dept should go partners on a new or used sewer cleaner. The statement should say a used sewer cleaner. A motion was then made by Harriet to accept the March minutes. Motion seconded by Carol.
Water/Sewer Expansion Report: Terry explained to the Commission that water/sewer paid O’Brien and Gere $6,000 to do a study on what it would cost to extend the sewer district to the Park and Ride, existing commercial properties fronting NYS Rte 32 and existing residential properties fronting Ann Lane and Joleyn Ave. The prices came back; to upgrade the water only will cost $201,000.00 and to upgrade the sewer the cost would be $126,912.00. A short discussion followed. The Town Board will take action on the report.
Modeling Report Cost: Terry stated that last fall, O’Brien & Gere gave us a quote to do a Potable Water System Modeling Report the cost, was around $15,000. Councilman Hassett was not happy with the price and he thought it was unneeded at the time. The report pertains to the storage tank on Sand Hill that needs to be painted; our water system has never run without that tank being in service, so we have no idea how the system would react without it. The painting of the tank could take seven weeks with good weather or up to eleven weeks with bad weather. The engineers will come in, and check by running a bunch of calculations on what our system will do, how our pumps work and how the Mountain Road tank will fill. What they are actually doing is a pilot study of taking the tank out of service. The original cost was $15,000, but the Supervisor told them to come up with a better price. The price the engineers came up with is $11,500. They also came to my office to demonstrate the study on the computer. When the study is completed he will be able to keep the program for future reference. Terry explained that the program can tell him if a certain section of the Town needs to have the water main replaced in 5 or 10 years, what hydrant are inadequate, a complete fire rate though out the Town, if the storage tank is offline in peak demand and a whole lot more. It will be a very useful program. A short discussion followed. A motion by Harriet to approve the modeling study on the storage tank on Sand Hill Road. Motion seconded by Ernie. All Commissioners agreed to the study being done.
Snyder Property: Terry informed the Commissioners that the Supervisor’s assistant, Ann went to the County Building to research the deed for the Snyder Mine Property. The last deed recorded was to the Village of Rosendale in 1967. The property was never transferred to the Water department. Terry told the Board that the fence work at Snyder Mine is completed. The clean up was also done at the property. A short discussion followed.
Jeep: Terry informed the Commission that the 1994 Jeep they currently own is in very bad shape; the floor is caving in, the c v joints are going and it needs a lot of work, it is not worth putting the money into it. He is going to start looking for a used pick up truck. Harriet asked where. Terry replied, off the state bids or just looking around for one. Terry said he will take his time looking for one because they can make do with two vehicles for awhile.
Grant writer: Terry told the Commissioners that the Town is going to hire a grant writer, so that the Town can apply for the grants that are available. Supervisor is going to put an ad in the paper. A short discussion followed.
Dam inspection: Terry informed the Board that in mid 2006, there is going to be new regulations on Dam inspections. O’Brien & Gere informed us that they do inspections of dams. We are not obligated to use them, but we will have to have our dam inspected this year or if not this year, then next year. The dam will have to be inspected every five years. A short discussion followed.
Vouchers submitted for approval of payment.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:49 p.m. on a motion by Carol. Motion was seconded by Ernie.
The next meeting is scheduled for May 22, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. at the Rosendale Recreation Center, 1055 Rte 32.
Respectfully Submitted
