Rosendale Water and Sewer Commissioners Monthly Meeting
January 23, 2006
Commissioners: Ernie Kelder, Ernie DeWitt, Joseph Roddy, Harriet Vankleeck
Other: Terry Johnson, Supt. W/S
Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m. on a motion by Ernie K. Motion seconded by Ernie D.
A motion by Joe to accept the September minutes, motion seconded by Ernie K.
Snyder Mine: Terry informed the Commission that DeWitt Mill Fence Company will be doing the fence work at the Snyder Mine. He then explained to the Commissioners how high it will be and how it will be done at the mine.
Filter Plant: Terry stated to the Board that the plumbing at the Filter Plant will be started next week. The plumbing work is being done by J.H Miller at the cost of $8,900.
Plumbing work cut back: Terry informed the Commissioners that the plumbing work at the Filter plant was cut back in scope and price. The reason for the cut is that our Engineer was at the Filter plant and he stated that the piping on the filter trains themselves should be left alone, because those came from the manufacturer of trains. He feels if we tamper with the piping we may cause problems with the trains. They will still have $8,900 to work with, but if all of the money is not used, it will go back into the water account.
Hand Tools: Terry stated to the Commission that he would like to use some of the money that they saved on the pipe work to purchase hands tools that are needed for everyday use. His staff is actually bringing their tools from home, which they shouldn’t have to because we don’t have them. He would like to get a purchase order for Sears. Joe asked Terry how much money. Terry said at least $2,000. A short discussion followed. A motion by Joe to approve a purchase order for the amount of $2,000 for hands tools from Sears. All Commissioners agreed to the amount of the purchase order.
Trailer: Terry mentioned to Joe that he had asked him about the letter considering the trailer, and how were we going to pay for it, because he knew that there was no money in the water capital reserve account. Terry told Joe that he had met with Doris (the bookkeeper) and did some number crunching. In February, Doris will take $10,000 out of the water department’s operating budget from 2005 and place it in the water capital reserve account. She may be able to put $20,000 if the numbers work out right.
Assoc. of Towns: Terry informed the Commissioners that he will be attending the Assoc of Towns meeting, in New York on February 19th to the 22nd. A short discussion following.
Reed Beds for sludge: Terry stated that he will be meeting with a John Jankowitz tomorrow (Jan 24) to discuss Reed beds. He explained to the Commissioners what a Reed bed is and how it works.
Sewer Cleaner: Terry mentioned to the Commission if they remember asking him last fall to take the sewer cleaner to Ralph C. Herman, to see what it would cost to fix. They said they did. Well, he talked to the company and they said that they really don’t want to mess with it anymore because they literally have to go on the internet to try and find part for it. Terry said that he did find a sewer cleaner listed on the Rural Water website for $8,000 which came with a one year guarantee. The Supervisor gave him permission to go and look at it but, when he called it had already been sold. He also had a call from a gentleman stating he had one for $11,000, but it was in Buffalo, so he could check the condition of it. He will continue to look for a used one. A short discussion followed.
Purchase order: Terry told the Commission that he needs to have a purchase order approval for filter media which is used for their filter trains. The bags of media cost $13.10 per bag. All of the Commissioners agreed to the purchase order for the media.
Vouchers were submitted for approval of payment.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m. on a motion by Harriet. Motion was seconded by Ernie K.
The next meeting is scheduled for February 27, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rosendale Recreation Center, 1055 Rte 32.
Respectfully Submitted
