Re: Sale of former Rosendale Town Hall

Agent & Broker Donate Commissions to Rosendale Pool Fund

When the Town of Rosendale made the decision to co-locate its new town hall facilities with the Town of Marbletown in the former Rosendale Elementary School on Lucas Ave, they no longer had any use for their cramped Town Hall building on Main Street, Rosendale.  The Rosendale Town Board decided to put the building on the market and authorized the Supervisor to list the property for sale. The two-story commercial brick structure, which had also housed the offices of the former Village of Rosendale, was listed for sale in December of 2013.

After interviewing a number of real estate brokerages, Supervisor Jeanne Walsh chose Brian Cafferty with Westwood Metes & Bounds Realty Ltd., with offices in Stone Ridge, to list and market the property. “I had experience with Brian Cafferty and Westwood and believed they were the right people to get the property sold. Both Brian and Westwood have a strong market presence in Rosendale and were very familiar with the building and our business community. They were clearly the right fit,” said Supervisor Jeanne Walsh. The property sold quickly, above the asking price, and closed on March 10th 2014.

Aside from being the right fit, the fact that both listing agent Brian Cafferty and Westwood’s principal broker Harris Safier both offered to donate their entire listing commission of $6030.00 to the Rosendale Pool Fund was simply too much to pass up. “Their generosity and our need to raise money to replace our community’s pool made the decision to work with them all the more easy,” said Supervisor Jeanne Walsh. Of the total donation of $6030.00, Cafferty’s portion was $3618.00 and Westwood Metes & Bounds Realty’s portion was $2412.00 respectively.

“It was an easy decision for me. I was born and raised in Rosendale, and I served as a Town Councilman for four years and I was well aware that the town was struggling to get the pool rebuilt. Rosendale is like family to me—it was a no brainer,” said Brian Cafferty of Westwood Metes & Bounds Realty.

“The homeowners of Rosendale have been good to Westwood Metes & Bounds for three plus decades now.  We owe a large part of our success to them for choosing to work with us.” said Harris Safier, principal broker and owner of Westwood Metes & Bounds Realty.

Both Harris Safier and Brian Cafferty will present their donation checks to the Rosendale Town Board at their board meeting on April 9th at 7:30pm at the Rosendale Community Center.
