Here is a pictorial memory of the Grand Opening of the New Geothermal Rosendale Recreation/Community Center which took place on July 12, 2003. This all day event brought over 400 people to both the Flea Market and the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for food, fun, dancing and comradery.
THE FLEA MARKET
Thanks to all our flea market vendors who brought their wares and services....I hope you had a great time and a little profit for your time spent!
Before I continue with the Flea Marketers...I can not forget what was the "DONATED" entertainment for this event. None other than 25 year local veteran D.J. J.Thorpe, the Hudson Valley's D.J. who always "gives back" to the communities in which he serves.
J. Thorp contacted the Town of Rosendale as soon as he heard there was an event and came equipped with his lollypop hand-outs, his diverse assortment of music---everything from oldies, pop, country and Big Band favorites.
Thanks D.J. J for making this a melodic event and please, if you liked our music, please feel free to contact him for any and all upcoming events where you want to have a dancing good time!

Here is D.J. Jay holding up his first equipment of two and half decades ago, when he started his business
Of course, no introductions have to be made for Legislator Alan Lomita who has a passion for antiques and Flea Markets (on the right next to D.J. J)
| Not only were there antiques, crafts, spin art and more...BUT CHICKENS, DUCKS AND DOGS brought by Camille, a promoter of small backyard farms and how to keep farming alive. It's a great way to show your children how they can collect their own eggs and a most healthy and fun project also! Below are some of her puppies, bred to keep away the predators of a home poultry operation. |

Cuddly, adorable, huggable and seemingly bored by this whole ordeal! |

Then it was on to the "before the G.O. " gatherings...here are a few pictures of the inside of the Recreation Center before the actual Ribbon Cutting |

One of Rosendale's finest Officer Josh Taylor made an appearance to speak to residents

Here is Senator Bonacic taking private moments before the Ribbon Cutting to greet and speak to Former Supervisor Jeannie Fleming-Laik (left) and present Supervisor Phil Terpening
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
AND WHILE THIS WAS GOING ON....LAST MINUTE PREPARATIONS WERE BEING MADE INSIDE THE SOON-TO-BE OPENED RECREATION CENTER:

left to right: Councilman McDonough and Joe Havranek carry in some subs...Lisa Kellogg decorates the podium and John, from the New Tillson Florist puts last minute touches on his donated creation for the Grand Opening (even the roses said The Rosendale Recreation Center on them, along with the balloons!)
And then it was time for Supervisor Phil Terpening to introduce the political dignitaries that were here to give us their feelings on this joyous occasion. The Supervisor, first read his letter of thanks from the Grand Opening Memory Book and started to introduce all that had a part in this wonderful event! |

We were pleased that Sen. Bonacic could make an appearance at the Grand Opening as he was an instrumental part of helping fund and support the rebuilding of the Community Center |

Note in the left picture, in the background, both Supervisor Terpening and Sen. Bonacic laugh, as Assemblyman Cahill makes a joke
Supervisor Terpening then said that this project was something that was something that could not be made possible without the insight of former Supervisors, Dan Glazer, who originally bought the property for a mere $65,000, Beatrice Havranek, who made enormous improvements to the Recreation Property during her reign, and Former Supervisor Jeannie Fleming-Laik who originally proposed the renovation of the Recreation Center and then the rebuilding. Unfortunately, Beatrice Havranek could not attend, but she received many cheers and crowd applause for all her past efforts. Supervisor Terpening then introduced Former Supervisor Dick Glazer and Jeannie Fleming-Laik to speak about the past endeavors that led to this day..... |

At this time, Supervisor Terpening introduced Legislators Joan Every, Alan Lomita & Brian Hathaway and after each of them speak, they present The Town of Rosendale with an Ulster County "Pride of the County" Award |

After receiving the Award, Supervisor Terpening speaks about the Town Board Councilman and their efforts in the process of the rebuilding project of the new center. He mentions that both Councilman Perry Soule and Brian Cafferty could not be there for the opening, expresses regrets and introduces Councilman Kenneth Hassett and Councilman Patrick McDonough to speak. Later, Ken Oldehoff, Chairman of the Democratic Committee reads a statement for Councilman Cafferty |

The time approaches for the ribbon cutting ceremony & Supervisor Terpening invites former Supervisors Dan Glazer & Jeannie Fleming-Laik to help cut the ribbon.

At this point, the much-anticipated entry into the new center is announced by Supervisor Terpening and the PARTY BEGINS!!!!! |

Much thanks to our youth servers who made the crowds flowing smoothly

And..here is one of the cakes, complete with a "sweet" replica of the New Rosendale Recreation/Community Center

A piece of "New" Art from the New Tillson Florist and a piece of "old" art, which believe it or not, is a framed piece of the old rug from Sportsmen's Park....note that it is on top of the new rug. We can only hope that the new rug serves us as long as the old one did. We thought it was funky, but now it looks like aztec art! |

And what fabulous band were they dancing to....none other than Soul Purpose, the most versatile band that played oldies, rock, ska, blues and you name it. We want to thank the members of Soul Purpose for giving us a really great time. Also, guest bassist from Rosendale, Duke Dulkin can be seen below sitting in on a song or two. |

I just have to say, when the Oldehoffs were in motion there was no way to get anything but a blur.....that family can certainly cut up the dance floor!!
And here are some familiar faces, some of our civic group set-ups and a perfect picture of how two of our residents and visitors summed up the way they felt at the end of the night. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I know I did....Blessings, Rochelle

| I would like to apologize to the Rosendale Cafe for the omission of their name on the last page of the Memory Book it was just a matter of long continual hours, spanning 3 days of putting the book together and not, in any way, to slight your wonderful food contribution. And, once more the rest of the thanks go to the businesses that sent us food donations and made the music a wonderful addition to this gala event: |
The Rosendale Cafe, The Tillson General Market, Stewarts of Rosendale, Snapple, Tucinno's, The Cross Roads Deli, Lunch 32, The Closeout Center of Rosendale, Women's Studio Workshop,The Rosendale Cement Company, Zachary's, The "New" Tillson Florist and a wonderful baker, Tina Williams, from our own hometown.
