Rosendale Commission for the Conservation of the Environment
Attendance: Acting Chair Nick Mercurio, Paul Lendvay, Deb Horowitz, Ed Maestro, Jennifer Metzger, Joe Liuni, Rick VandenHeavel, Ilonka Metsger-Lukas Town Board Liaison: Ken Cluen. Excused: Joan Maylie.
Meeting opened at 7:10 pm. Previous minutes were reviewed, discussed and corrections made. A motion was made by Paul L. and seconded by Deb H. and unanimously approved. At this time, we will start adhering to our new attendance policy that was approved at our last meeting.
Old business:
Progress reports for:
Water Budget: Deb H. reported ongoing discussion about the groundwater protection plan to be presented, possibly in July, to the RCCE members. Thereafter, presented to the Town Board for inclusion into our town resources. Nick M. had a short presentation on issues with water courses on any property. If it flows into a federal waterway, the Corp Of Engineers get involved. The building and code inspectors of a town, according to the Corp,are the towns flood plain officers. These officers are involved for any disturbances within a flood plain. Permits are needed.
Open Space: Complete files were not received ,Rick Umbolt, Ulster Co. GIS information person, will attempt to reconstruct missing flies. It is not known when the complete files will be forwarded.
Solar Data Transmission: Nick M. reported the loss of data during days of heavy snow coverage and the problem of this snow not being able to slide off the pavilion roof quickly. Since it's installation Nick approximates $3000 in savings. We will be investigating a U.P.S. unit for the computer.
Planning Board: Nick M. reported Wild Rose subdivision on Bruceville Rd is doing research on an adjacent cemetery for any historic values.
Biodiversity Assessment: Tabled
New Business:
April 26 program at 6.30 pm on Hardenburg Park Assessment by Karen Schneller-MacDonald
RCCE library will need a stamp/ink pad to state property of RCCE. It will be ordered in the near future.
Deb H. would like a letter sent to the town that this commission is working on a wetland protection plan for inclusion to the town master plan. Deb and Ed will draft a letter of public comment relative to the Rt 32 gateway corridor. This letter will be reviewed by email, and pending approval of this commission, will be sent to the town.
