PRESENTS

Rosendale  Energy  Expo 2006

Rosendale Commission Receives Prestigious Award at 2006 Energy Expo

The Rosendale Environmental Commission presented "Going Green = $aving Green" on May 20, 2006 at the Recreation Center.  This day-long event was to help further people in their knowledge regarding alternative methods for building/renovation, architecture and supplies, with emphasis on energy efficiency and renewable energy.

At this second year event, we hosted 21 vendors, many of whom attended last year. The  educational program was well attended and although there was a revolving attendance, approximately 200 interested folks participated at any one time.

New this year was the addition of hybrid vehicles.  Ford came with their Escape, a small SUV.  The Hudson Valley Biodiesel Coop brought a diesel Mercedes converted to also use waste vegetable oil.  Another vendor showed his half ton truck on display, which he had converted (by a kit) to use vegetable oil. His wife added to the demonstration by showing their Toyota Prius.  Two Rosendale residents also showed their hybrid cars to round out this varied display of alternative fuel vehicles.

The day started with warm opening remarks by Supervisor Gallagher, along with Rosendales own county legislators Alan Lomita, Phil Terpening and Joan Every. Other legislators present included  Susan Zimet and Hector Rodriguez from the New Paltz, who spoke of the Rosendale Environmental Commissions determination in bringing usable information to county residents. Last years event, spearheaded by then-Chair Manna Jo Greene, and this years Chair Joan Maylie demonstrates the commitment of this Commission.  For this dedication, the legislators presented to the Rosendale Environmental Commission the "Pride of Ulster County" award.  This, of course, could not be done without the dedication of its members and the full cooperation of various Town officials and departments.
