Williams Lake Hotel hosted an Evening of Celebration of the 175th Anniversary of the Rosendale Post Office 1827-2002
This successful event took place on Sunday, April 28th starting at 5 p.m. with nice "getting acquainted" hour. The program commenced at 6 p.m. with a pleasant talk from Maurice Hinchey commending the Post Office for its many years of service and the importance of mail in all of our lives and businesses.

The program proceeded with the awards from the Ulster County Legislature presented by both Alan Lomita and Joan Every who represent our district.

A commemoratory plaque was sent from Senator Bonacic's office and our own Supervisor Phil Terpening presented one from our Township in appreciation of the Post Office's 175 years of services.

Our host and hostess are seen here with the awards artistically displayed thanks to the artistry of Gayle Grunwald of the Century House Historical Society...

Our host Dietrich Werner spoke about history and introduced another guest speaker, The Town Historian of the present Town of Hurley. Mr. David Baker interestingly spoke of how Hurley was the "adoptive parents" of the present Town of Rosendale, spoke of the "birth" of our township and the post office, the cement business and many of our forefathering families who helped formulate the town, once called "Rosendahl". It was a very, very interesting recollection of events.

Here are some pictures of the awards and their presenters, you can see all were having a great time!

Looking about the room, you can see some of the guests at the tables who tapped their feet and clapped their hands to the fantastic nostalgia of a fiddle playing family named "The Flying Foxes"

The Flying Fox performed some traditional fiddle music from days of old and even one beautiful tune written at the Ashokan Reservoir, which had an incredible, moving feeling to it.
Thanks so much to Gayle Grunwald, Dietrich Werner and all the members of the Century House Historical Society's Board of Trustees, the members, friends of the Society & Anita Williams for hosting this event and making it the great success it was!. The food was incredible, the lakeside dining was divine and everyone had a most memorable time. P.S. Thanks to Gayle for her floral artistry and, as always, clever decorating.
All Proceeds from this event will go to further the educational mission of the Century House Historical Society |
